It was a balmy day in 2009 and a weary Ashvin Naidu was tucking into a delicious
Andhra meal after a tough day of brainstorming. He had been at it for hours but
something was missing. He just couldn’t put a finger on it. He turned the ideas over
and over in his mind, puzzling things this way and that, when suddenly, he bit down
hard on a piece of spicy mango pickle, cunningly mixed with the food on his banana
leaf. As the heat waves trashed around in his mouth, inspiration struck and the
day was saved. From that germ of an idea emerged
Avakkai Films, a production
company dedicated to infusing every film with the same hit of spice as the famous
Andhra pickle.
Ashvin Naidu began his career with a histrionic exit from business studied in early
2000. After that traumatic experience, he found it more enjoyable working behind the
camera, starting with teleseries, moving on to a stint in Bollywood and finally landing
in advertising. Since launching
Avakkai Films, he has worked on exciting ad films for
clients like United Breweries, Titan Watches, ING Life Insurance, Met Life Insurance,
TI Cycles, TVS, Britannia, Univercell, Wipro, Future group and Khaitan, to name just
a few. Now Ashvin spends his days indulging his inner foodie and playing internet
poker, but only when he is not producing and directing awesome ad films.
